Step 1 – Download the Ubuntu 8.04 Desktop ISO image, that corresponds to your hardware architecture (i386 or amd64), from here.
Step 2 – Burn the ISO image with your favorite CD/DVD burning application (on Windows, you can use one of the following applications: Nero, CDBurnerXP, Roxio etc) on a blank CD at 8x speed.
Step 3 – Insert or leave the CD in your CD/DVD-ROM device and reboot your computer. Select your language when asked:

Then select the second option “Install Ubuntu” and hit Enter:

Step 4 – Wait for the CD to load into RAM, and when the installer appears, select your native language and click the ‘Forward’ button:

Where are you?
The second screen will feature a map of the Earth with little red dots, so you can select your city/country. Upon the current selection of your location, the time for the final system will adjust accordingly. You can also select your current location from the drop down list situated at the bottom of the window. Click the ‘Forward’ button after you have selected your desired location.

Test your keyboard
On the third screen, you will be asked to select the keyboard layout that suits you best (default is U.S. English). You can also test your keyboard on the little text input field situated at the bottom of the window. Click the ‘Forward’ button when you have finished with the keyboard configuration.

Hard disk partitioning
Hold on, don’t leave just yet! The hard disk partitioning is an easy task, so I am quite sure you will manage to handle it too. You have three options:

1. If you want to keep your existing operating system (e.g. Dual boot with Windows XP), select the first option: “Guided – resize the partition and use the freed space”.
2. If you want to delete your existing operating system and you want to let the installer to automatically partition the hard drive for you, select the second option: “Guided – use entire disk”.
3. Manual is the third choice at this point and I strongly suggest you to use it if you don’t have any other operating system installed and your hard drive does not contain important data on it. Follow the instructions below:
Choose the hard drive partition (or entire hard drive if you don’t have any partitions) you want to format and click the ‘Delete partition’ button to delete the selected partitions. In the end, you should have a single entry called “free space”, select it and click the ‘New partition’ button to create the ‘root’ partition. Select “Primary” for the partition type, set the size of the partition (in megabytes), leave the “Location for the new partition” and “Use as” options as they are and select the mount point “/” (just like in the image below).

You should still have a “free space” line, select it and click the ‘New partition’ button to create the ‘home’ partition. Select “Logical” for the partition type, set the size of the partition (in megabytes), leave the “Location for the new partition” and “Use as” options as they are and select the mount point “/home” (just like in the image below).

You should still have some “free space” left, so select it and click the ‘New partition’ button to create the ‘swap’ partition. Select “Logical” for the partition type, set the size of the partition (in megabytes) twice your RAM (e.g. if you have 512 RAM, set the size to 1024), leave the “Location for the new partition” option as it is and set the “Use as” option to ‘swap’.
WARNING: Be aware that all the data on the selected hard drive will be ERASED and IRRECOVERABLE!
Click the ‘Forward’ button to continue with the installation.
Who are you?
Here you must do exactly what the title of this step tells you to do. You must fill in a couple of fields with your real name, the name you want to use to log in on your Ubuntu OS (username), password and the name of the computer (automatically generated). Once you have finished with this step, click the Forward button again (for the last time).

Are you really ready for Ubuntu?
If you have successfully arrived at this point, then you are definitely ready for your new Ubuntu operating system. So, what are you waiting for? Click the ‘Install’ button NOW!

The Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) operating system will be installed…

Step 5 – After approximately 8 to 10 minutes, a pop-up window will appear, notifying you that the installation is complete and you need to restart the computer in order to use the newly installed Ubuntu:

You’ve probably clicked the ‘Restart now’ button, because you were very excited to see your new Ubuntu operating system at work.

1- Simple and nice install wizard that my grandmother can do .

2-It has more online Community support than any other Distro’s

3-lots of Add-on’s , Updates and cool Applications comes built-in

4-Package installation couldn’t get any easier compared to other Distro’s , you can find almost everything through the Synaptic Package Manager .

5- You can also Run Windows .EXE and files, and to do that you need something Called Wine which can be Downloaded through the Synaptic Package .

6- If you beef it up it can also be great for gaming .

7- Good for Web Development , Graphics Design and runs smoothly .

8- Needs less Ram , memory and system Resources to operate efficiently

9- It can be used as a standalone Server / Firewall for your home or business Network with the right plugs of course this can be done through most Linux Distro’s but I like better with Ubuntu .

10- You Can have the Apple Mac OSX performance , Free of stupid bugs and Viruses but without the Overpriced Price Tag .

The people who tried any Flavor of the Linux Operating system would definitely agree that its such a great one and as soon you learn it you’ll find lots of tools, cool stuff, and the fact that it’s much more secure than any other OS… in other words your experience is going to be hassle free which is the opposite when using MS products. But that’s not the point behind this post, the point is I was reading some news articles online and I bumped into a very interesting one about a couple in Sweden “a guy and his girlfriend named the newly born baby … Linux! Which I found a little odd even though I am a Linux fan and support all the aspects of making it grow, it’s not that it did not happen before or I don’t like it. because it did, a lot of people named their babies after brands like Google back in the day but maybe the reason why for those couple is they both agreed on it hoping for their baby to wake up every morning Free of problems and viruses that way they don’t have to keep diagnosing him… what is that tell you? Always make sure to choose the right name for your baby and think it through but be careful not to name him after the Giant MICROSOFT! Because I can’t even imagine what’s going to happen to him/her.

This is not the first time that someone finds a flaw in Nvidia’s Laptop graphics chip even though it’s the number one Graphics chip manufacturer globally for both the desktop and laptop markets but It turned out to be that… this kind of scenario wasn’t only a problem to Microsoft anymore it became an issue to most of the big name brands. back to our story the problem was previously addressed by Hewlett-Packard Co. and Dell Inc. this flaw mainly  causes problems such as distorted or scrambled video on the computer screen or no video at all, apple said in a notice on its website but failed to list which models are affected .

Of course Nvidia had to admit their own flaw and set $196 to cover costs associated with addressing the problem. I think this is ridiculous, but hey it’s their loss Instead of delivering a good working product they made a stupid mistake that could cost them Much more. And what most of them including Nvidia say… hey we stand by our products and back it up.

This one is for both Linux and Windows users, if you’ve ever wanted to learn Linux or another Operating system or maybe completely convert to Linux but didn’t want to mess up your brand new computer that came with the so called Windows Vista or even Apple Mac OSX then VMware Workstation 6.5 is the way to go for anyone who wants that, to run and play with multiple Operating system inside the main O.S. if your new and wondering what is a Virtual Machine? Then here is the best way to define it. A virtual machine is a tightly isolated software container that can run its own operating systems and applications as if it were a physical computer. A virtual machine behaves exactly like a physical computer and contains its own virtual (i.e., software-based) CPU, RAM hard disk and network interface card (NIC). Bottom line is if you’re an IT Professional, Developer or even a user who wants try and play with different Operating systems then VMware is your best bet. Who would have thought of this about year and half ago, when Viacom sued Google over YouTube clips back in march? I personally didn’t think they were going to go much further since it was a copyright infringement lawsuit against them, but what we know, you tube hits boomed even more since then.  Just recently Google’s YouTube started by adding 15 50-minute TV episodes from Star Trek, Beverly Hills 90210 and MacGyver and with prominent new ads. Like Google needs more profit to make … but who cares if Google makes more money and experiment video display and advertisement strategy as long is users like us can all enjoy full length, high quality videos for free anywhere.

This is my first post and Blog at Word Press it feels a little strange, even though I’ve used other services and Blogs in the past but one of my colleagues at my last Job had a couple of Word press blogs and he liked using it so I thought I’d give it a try and decided to use it at least for now. of course the first thing I didn’t like is the original Word press header So I had to create a nicer and more professional one then Upload it using Gimp 2.6.0 which is the latest version of the Open source Photoshop type of thing according the vendors webpage I just downloaded it from their website, not to mention it took me a while to think of a good application that doesn’t cost me a fortune and works well , that’s how I remembered the Gimp Application and used it instead of paying a couple of hundred dollars for Photoshop or Corel , even though their considered the industry standard by many people. Despite that fact that I am an Open source Applications Fan! I think to master Gimp is better than to waste your money on a very expensive Software package.
